Heat Transfer Trends and Design Ideas for 2020

Trends in our industry are always changing. Whether it is a trend that is coming back in style or something new, it’s always a good idea to keep an eye on what’s popular. Here are some trends to follow:

1.Big, bold type/text
Everyone wants to express themselves, and what better way than to create a design that really drives home the message you want to put out there? Sometimes a concept can be as simple as bold white text on a black shirt. Sometimes the graphics can be much more complicated, for instance, a 10-color print with gradients, color fades, and very fine detail.

2.’80s/’90s throwback or retro concepts
Who doesn’t love artwork from the ’80s? There are so many different concepts to really dig into. The ’90s are coming back strong for 2021 as well.

3.Double exposure graphics
This technique refers to when you put an image within an image. For example, a photo of a tree blended into a picture of a woman’s face. The key is to make clean transitions between the two images to where the images are combined into one graphic.

4.Repeated type
This trend is exactly what it sounds like—a logo or line of text which is copied and pasted and then placed in repetition. For example, your average restaurant “thank you” takeout bag. The text “thank you” is repeated and stacked.

5.Pocket prints
Whether you’re decorating over a pocket, on a pocket, or creating a faux pocket print, this concept is prevalent throughout the textile printing world.

When designing a graphic, it is always good to know what the desired substrate will be. This is an essential factor to consider when setting the size of the image and deciding what inks or products will be used for production. The more information you have, the better the finished product will turn out.
